IOLMaster 700 is the top technological product for innovation and design in optical biometry. Developed and presented by Carl Zeiss Meditec in Jena, Germany, the prototype was launched in 1999. Since then, the IOLMaster has improved its refractive results, greatly benefiting cataract patients worldwide.

Zeiss IOL Master measures the eye’s axis length, corneal curvature, and anterior chamber depth. This information is used to calculate the power of an intraocular lens (IOL) that will be implanted in the eye during surgery. The Zeiss IOL Master is a critical part of the IOL implantation process and helps to ensure that the patient receives the best possible vision after surgery.

Many know them as the main entry point within the Zeiss Cataract Suite. Upgrading the new IOLMaster 700 has enabled the latest versions of swept-source OCT to see the bad length breadth of the eye. This allows surgeons to detect any form of unusual or abnormalities in the ocular geometry of the lens.

Makers of the product have also affirmed that the IOLMaster 700 can probe almost 99% of the cataract within the eye. This means that for the first time, the surgeon or medical examiner can see and observe what they are measuring. In addition, the powerful Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology provides the ability to see the fovea, cornea, and lens without hindrance.

The IOLMaster 700’s other unique ability is to be the ability to perform central retinal scans and measure the axial length, central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, and lens thickness of the eye. And in aggregate, it can perform up to 2000 such scans per second.

All of these features sound great. So if you are interested in learning further details about the product, then let us dive right into it:

The ZEISS Cataract Suite

Zeiss Cataract Suite

It is not just the IOLMaster 700 that can perform optimum results for you, the Ophthalmologist, and it comes along with a range of other products. These are meant to go hand-in-hand during medical examinations and enable spotless toric IOL alignment.

The products included are as follows-

  • ZEISS Callisto eye, an instrument meant for markerless alignment in a more precise way, can help reduce residual astigmatism. This enables you to reach the highest patient satisfaction within your medical work.
  • FORUM, or the Zeiss Forum, provides extensible and workable ophthalmic data management solutions. This means that it makes it easy for you to connect all your devices with the patient examination data showing improved workflow and helping in better decision-making.
  • OPMI LUMERA, another sophisticated device developed by Zeiss, gives you the best quality visualization technology. It is designed with a centrally controlled system that can adjust to your needs and provides simple access.

All these come under the umbrella of microscopic devices built and developed by Zeiss. To ensure that your examinations and procedures are met with the highest quality standards, they are meant to be used in combination. All these products are also meant to skip the manual steps for toric IOL implantation. These comprise pre-and intraoperative marking and manual data transfers that can take time and resources.

Provides precise and accurate measurement

Regarding medical examinations of cataracts, surgeons run the risk of refractive surprises, which can cause severe consequences for the patients. Therefore the IOLMaster 700 is meant to help mitigate such instances in the operation or examination room.

The device will give you accurate and precise lens thickness, measure the anterior chamber depth, and measure the eye’s corneal thickness. In simple terms, the IOLMaster can give measurements of almost all aspects of the eye. Exceptions are made, though, such as the anterior corneal surface.

All the procedures are completed in mere 40-50 seconds with an aggregate of 2000 scans within the given time frame.

Another thing to note is that the IOLMaster 700 can detect abnormalities within the lens geometry, as mentioned above. This also includes executing a 1-mm central retinal scan within the eye during the examination process.

Essential features to point out:

When discussing in detail the process of the IOLMaster 700 device, it is vital to mention the most prominent feature that helps make it stand out.

  • Swept-source OCT

Swept-source OCT

The swept-source technology is one of this device’s newest iterations, providing a complete visualization of the anatomy of the eye. This comes with its important advantages for the surgeon in any way.

One such advantage is that it helps reduce the number of refractive surprises. This means that the scanning technology can detect any unusual shapes or structures within the eye in advance. It also includes tilt or de-centration of the crystalline lens.

The advantage this has is ten-fold when it comes to abnormal eyes, as traditional measurement instruments are unable to detect such cases most of the time.

  • B-Scan

the IOLMaster 700 can generate the ability to produce accurate images of the actual ocular structure when it is being measured. This is through the B-scan ability feature of the device. The data provided by the B-scan is additionally more unbiased than A-scans, which do not have the capacity nor the ability to give an accurate image of the ocular structure.

This ensures that the entire intraocular anatomy is assessed, including the eye’s crystalline lens location. In addition, it can help in deciding and regulating sources that may affect the biometric readings of the eye examination.

Tele-centric Keratometry- the device’s system gives an accurate corneal evaluation, notwithstanding the size of the pupils. Its 950-mm light source scan can also probe deep within the sclera layer of the eye.

The IOLMaster 700 also allows the surgeon to see the refractions on the printout of the scan conducted. This enables the user to see and discern the satisfactory ones automatically.

Lastly, the overall ease of use of the device ensures the user with an autofocus system, cutting back on precious time spent.

In conclusion:

Ophthalmologists and medical specialists can rely upon the accuracy and consistency of the measurements executed from this device. It is a wonder of a machine best displayed in its ability to generate 2000 scans per minute. Compared to other devices available in the market, the ease of its use and quicker reading ability is other plus point about the IOLMaster 700.

It is a highly recommended device that every eye surgeon or specialist must have in their catalog. It same as The latest version of Optopol Revo FC OCT Fundus Camera, released in December 2018 with 8.0 core technologies, including an advance called ‘OCT Topography.’
