Lumenis Optilight is a non-invasive treatment used to manage dry eye disease, reducing inflammation in the eyelids. The treatment device uses pulses of light to reduce eye inflammation, which helps improve tear break-up time and meibomian gland function. You can experience longer-lasting tears after several OptiLight treatment sessions.

“We deal with dry eye every day, but unless we address the underlying inflammation, it’s difficult to meaningfully impact the disease. OptiLight helps us to address the inflammation, as shown in Lumenis’ IPL clinical trials, and improves signs of dry eye disease due to MGD, positioning it as a valuable tool in our dry eye toolkit,”

Dr. Steven J. Dell, medical director of Dell Laser Consultants and lead investigator in the Lumenis’ clinical trial submitted to the FDA.

OptiLight may not be for everyone, so we’ll determine your eligibility during a comprehensive eye exam. Our team will recommend OptiLight or another treatment to meet your dry eye needs.  Lumenis puts within your reach the possibility of treating Dry Eye.

Dry Eye Disease (DED) affects between 5 and 50% of the population, which affects the vision and quality of life of people who suffer from it, as well as the results of ophthalmological surgeries.

We are introducing the first and only FDA-approved IPL to treat Dry Eye Disease caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). We offer the possibility of treating this disease with patented and clinically proven technology. Get the safe, precise, and elegant procedure you want. With Optilight, we offer you a comfortable and effective therapy to treat your DED patients.

What to expect from Lumenis Optilight Treatment

Before your Treatment

Before your treatment, we’ll provide you with detailed instructions on what to do to prepare. On the day of your appointment, our team will apply a gel to the treatment area and cover your eyes with protective shields.

Your procedure involves applying light to the treatment area, taking 10 to 15 minutes to complete. After your treatment, we’ll provide you with aftercare instructions until your next appointment. The number of sessions you require can vary—some patients may need more treatments than others.

Lumenis Optilight is a safe, gentle, and effective treatment for dry eye symptoms caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. This non-invasive procedure is the first and only FDA-approved intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment for dry eye management.

OptiLight uses precise pulses of light in the area below the eyes to reduce dry eye symptoms. This 10-15 minute procedure can significantly relieve dry eye symptoms by:

  • Increasing tear break-up time
  • Reducing the amount of Demodex mites and bacteria living around your eyes
  • Eliminating blood vessels that contribute to inflammation
  • Improving meibomian gland functionality

During Your Treatment

This treatment is fast and straightforward. During the treatment, your doctor will apply a coupling gel to the treatment area and cover your eyes with shields.

As light is applied to the skin, you may experience a warm sensation. The treatment is gentle with minimum discomfort. The treatment itself will only take 10–15 minutes.

After Your Treatment

Your skin might be a little pink after your treatment, but this is normal, and symptoms should disappear in a few hours. Before you leave, we’ll apply sunscreen to protect your treated areas and book your following appointments.

We recommend avoiding direct sunlight for about 48 hours after your appointment. Tenderness in treated areas may also last 48 hours, so we recommend you avoid washing your face with hot water and exfoliating your skin during this time. Moisturizers and sunscreen are highly encouraged to help protect your skin!

Taking care of your patients at a higher level

OptiLight is easy to use and requires minimal training and preparation. Each treatment lasts 15 minutes, making it easy to integrate OptiLight into your workflow. Patients will see improvements in as few as four convenient OptiLight treatments, with minimal to no side effects.

With OptiLight in your practice, your patients will have a solution to a condition that often causes them frustration and disables their daily activity. OptiLight will also help you to have a new line of treatment available in your practice and to expand your aesthetic treatments. We are available to help you with clinical training and business support to help you grow.

Is Lumenis Optilight Right for Me?

While OptiLight by Lumenis is an effective dry eye management solution, we want to ensure it’s right for you. We do not recommend this treatment if you:

  • Are you taking certain medications, like Accutane
  • Have active acne
  • Suffer from certain skin disorders
  • Are susceptible to keloid scarring
  • Have severe scarring
  • I have severely sunburned recently

Your optometrist is the only person who can determine which dry eye treatment is best for you and your individual needs. During your next eye exam, ask us if you are a good candidate for OptiLight by Lumenis.

Treating your dry eye sometimes turns into treating yourself.  IPL helps reverse the signs of aging by stimulating collagen production for younger-looking eyes.  It has been used in dermatology for many years for skin rejuvenation.  Often referred to as a “photofacial,” the treatment can erase mild sun damage, age spots, freckles, or irregular pigmentation on the eyes, face, and neck.

Optilight is performed in a series of 3-4 treatment sessions and sometimes used in combination with radio frequency, as discussed below.
